Personal Pink Domino Detailed Set-Up

(Please watch out for Credits at the end of this post.)

Hi everyone!

I left you last time with some photos of the Domino.  In this post, I'll show you the set-up in detail. I decided to split the post into two since it had gotten to be quite long.

I've since added the sticker on the front and another bottom tab.

And added a bookmark, or two.

Onto the insides.

Card slots on the left has some flags, DiY'ed bookmarks, and business cards.  The flyleaf is washi taped front and back with my name on it using rub-ons.

DiY sticker storage on the right
Behind the flyleaf, "Words I think sound cool."

More storage for transparent stickers

Diary tab with photo of my
husband and I at a water ride.
There are a few things I'm doing differently this year, including using transparent stickers (left).

February
Another thing I'm doing differently is using a monthly diary.  I never got on with one before but I'm determined to make it work this time.  Washi tape was used just to mark the beginning and end of each month.

Also behind the Diary tab are the weeklies.

I made a double-flyleaf with a bottom tab to mark the week and for post-its.  It's the pink striped washi at the bottom of the first few pictures.  Here's a shot of it on a clean weekly spread.

The clear plastic throws me off a little bit so I washi-taped the edges so I can 'see' that it's there. (Does that make sense?)

I used a 'calendar' washi to make tabbed months without adding bulk.

I also used it to do the following:

(1) Mark off the beginning of each month (right);

(2) add color to the monthlies.

For tabs, I used these K&Company Smash tabs which I didn't think much of until I saw them in the store and fell in love with them.  I 'laminated' them with packaging tape and labeled them so I can reuse them.  They're just attached with washi tape.  I love these tabs!

Another flyleaf with sticky notes

DIY envelope (a la Dayrunner) used as 'Notes' tab
The Notes section has lots of loose paper and blank pages.

The next section is the 'Blog' tab with Raine's (and my!) pink Domino as cover.  (:

This is where I write Blog ideas and notes.  I tick off whether I have (1) taken photos, (2) written the post, and (3) published the post.

'Index' tab
Color-Coding key
The last tab is an 'Index'.  I used the Filofax label tabs and color-coded with cardstock. I didn't bother to label them as I know my color-coding by heart, but I wrote down a key anyway.  Just in case.

This replaced the GTD system I was previously using.

I also 'laminated' them with clear contact paper just to make them more durable.

Each sub-tab in the Index section has a Table of Contents.
Behind the 'Home' tab
The 2 bookmarks at the top mark a Notes page (pink) and phone numbers (blue).

Most of the contents are lists (you know how those go) as well as some tracking I need to do like my dog's vet schedule, bills due and if/when paid, etc.

Kobe's vet visits in the 'Family' tab
Bills schedule in the 'Financial' section
I use either colored paper that corresponds to the sub-tab, or grid paper.

'Crafting' tab. How I planned out my DiY bookmark on grid paper

Full Adhesive Post-Its.  I love these.
More Post-Its and flags.
And lastly, at the very back is the sticky note storage.  I put a lot of them here so I don't have to dig them out when I need then, AND, to use them up so I can buy more, LOL.

Muji zipped envelope holds
smaller items.
Top opening envelope
with flags and a ruler

And even more sticky notes and flags, and a ruler.

I love the business card holders and envelopes for storing things!

At the very back, a flyleaf with another pen/loop and a Midori pocket sticker to hold Muji stickies.

I usually don't store things in the bigger pockets because I sometimes forget they're there.

The pens I use here are a 5- and 3-barrel Coleto and a blue ballpoint.  I'd really like to wean myself from color-coding, but that's an entire post in itself.

Now, a parting shot of the back of 'Charlotte'.  (I'm naming her for the very kind lady who helped me get her.)
Such a pretty color!
If you have any questions about anything I didn't touch on, just leave a comment below.

Goodbye for now, thanks for visiting!

Credits (a.k.a. Enablers):

Adamsfilo:  I realized from his video how how useful the multi-purpose card holder can be.  I got 2.  I was also able to find the Midori transparent stickers he uses and I love them.
Mits2:  Her pink Domino was so cute, I knew I had to get one.
Kent from Oz:  I copied the idea of the flyleaf from him.
Charlotte (from the UK):  Where I live is a Sahara for Filofaxes.  Thanks again for helping me get the Domino, and some other goodies!

Embracing Pink in 2014

Hi everyone!

I endeavored to expand my Filofax family to include colors other than pink.  I have bought and sold a few non-pink ones because I didn't get along with them.  Now I know better!  I love pink and I will embrace it!

Case in point: I got a new pink Filofax!

Yes folks, I got a Domino!  I had largely ignored this model because it wasn't leather.  It's only my 2nd Domino.  My 1st one was a pocket in brown.  Over time, the elastic had stretched on that way too much to be usable and the suede started to peel.  Now I know I need to take care of this one a little better.

I bought this because of the lovely color, it was cheap, and it has the feel of the Midori Traveler's Notebook except with rings!

Pink! tassel and bottom tabs.
Hello Kitty padlock used as charm.
No top tabs, just bookmarks
I kept the setup simple with just side tabs, a few bookmarks, and bottom tabs to take me to the weekly diary and sticky note section.

In the card slots, I have some flags, DiY bookmarks, and business cards.  My first page is a washi-taped flyleaf.

I'll keep this post short and follow with a detailed set-up soon.  I did quite a few new things and made a lot of changes vs. my previous set-up. (This Filo is washi-taped to the gills, as you'll see later.  I've also lost my crafting Mojo lately and making things for this helped me craft and create without too much of a commitment.)

Thanks for visiting and see you soon!

Filofax Swap Shout Out: Finchley for Finchley

Hi everyone!

As some of you may remember, I downsized my Filofax family by about half, and kept only the ones that were either my favorites, or I knew would get a lot of rotation.

One of the ones that I was quite hesitant about re-homing was the Antique Rose Personal Finchley.  I love the Finchley range!  They have the most scrumptious, textured, soft leather.  And this pink is a great color.

Lovely, isn't she?

I showed my stash to a friend who liked her and wanted to try her out, but she changed her mind and I have the Finchley back with me now.  (I figured if I gave her to a friend, I wouldn't mind letting her go as much.)

But I really have too many pink Filofaxes!

Now, I have a Teal Pocket Finchley very generously gifted to me by Vanja that is the most perfect blue color.

Jade Finchley re-homed to a friend's friend.

And that Pocket Finchley needs a big brother.  (Incidentally, blue is the one color I've been lemming in the Personal size, and I have yet to get one.)

So, if anyone out there would like to swap, I'm your girl!  The Antique Rose Finchley is in near-mint condition, used a few times, but mostly used as a household binder so it has stayed home most of the time, and hasn't gotten bashed around in a bag.

If you're interested, message me, and I would be forever grateful.

Hope to hear from you.

Thanks for visiting!

3-in-1 Post: Personal Ochre Malden Filofax

Hi everyone!

This is really 3 posts in one: (1) settling into the Malden, (2) giving you a tour of my set-up, and (3) a diary update. So heads-up, long post to come!  (:  I'll try not to bore you with too much text and let the photos speak for themselves.

THE MALDEN
I've been Filo fickle lately, flitting from binder to binder without settling on one for more than a few days.  I moved out of the pink Baroque to give it a rest because I've been using it since June.  And then I remembered that I haven't used the ochre Malden since maybe February, so I 'borrowed' it back from my daughter.

The verdict?  I still love it!  Why?

I'm a jeans-and-tee-shirt type of girl. I love wearing boots with jeans when the weather permits.  And the Malden is the equivalent of that.  It's very cowboy! It's like an old worn leather saddle (and I used to ride when I was young so I know, LOL).  It'll take a beating and the more it's used (and abused), the more character it has.

I got it used on ebay so the previous owner had already trained and broken it in for me.  It lies completely flat, the leather is soft and pliable, and it has gotten that leather patina we sometimes crave in our designer handbags.

This is sans the January-August diary pages, so I'm hoping they'll still fit when I get the 2013 Diary.

It has also gotten quite creased but I actually don't see any real scratches on it.  And since I'm not precious with my Filofaxes, this suits me just fine.

Shows the creasing quite well
There are loads of ochre Maldens on Flickr, and I just love browsing them. (Take a gander at the link and ogle those pretty Maldens.)

There's something about the color of the ochre that reminds me of the Old West or the Frontier.  I can imagine generals writing in their leather journals and documenting wars and battles.

Or for a more modern-day analogy, the Indiana Jones of Filofaxes.  (:

The Malden is just so photogenic!

Also, the brown is quite neutral, so my tabs and other doodads don't clash with it.

(I've considered getting a Vintage Pink as a back-up but finally decided against it since I have way too many pinks.)

THE SET-UP
I realized lately that I've never done a complete tour of my set-up.  I felt it was going to be sooo long because of the pictures (my binders tend to be fat and chunky), so I've put it off for a while.  The Malden is such a great backdrop though, with its neutral color, and great leather, that I went ahead and had a photo session.

The front
Since this is a stay-at-home filo, I didn't need any cards in the front.  I just put some flags in the front, a bookmark, and a paper clip.  More for color really, LOL.

The front is a thick plastic flyleaf I've had for ages that protects my Info Page that I've been doing in all my filos forever.  I rubbed on my name on the front in a brown font with a cute little birdie.

I like having the Return-To-Filofax page with my binder's Registration Number.  I doubt this will ever be useful but I have it in there anyway.  (:

Tab sections.  I use these and may want to decorate them in the future.  I just can't decide on how I want to do that.  They appear here in the order they come in the binder.  Most of the side tabs also have top tabs which I'll show you as well.

Contacts. (no photos for obvious reasons)  (:

Notes.  Flyleaf followed by blank notepaper and top tabs.

Post-Its on a flyleaf.  I love Martha's pastels!
Food tab contains dishes and new recipes on jot pads.

A favorite poem taught to me by my grandfather.
Wrote it down so I wouldn't forget.

Personal Top Tabs

Top tabs
I remade my tabs lately with thin plastic dividers from a bookstore.  I NEED top tabs, and use them a lot.  The ones I had, although pretty and pastel (2 words I love), were made of cardstock, and I was afraid I'd get them tattered really quickly.  I tried to do them all in one color, but they were hard to read, so I alternated yellow and grey instead.  I'm still on the hunt for the same dividers in pastels.

I'll write a separate post on these.  (:

The back

Plastic envelope with photos of two important men in my life.

On the left, an old prayer from my mom.  On the right, Daytimer vinyl envelopes.  I love these.  They came with a binder I got off ebay.

Jot Pads

This is one creased Malden !

Another thick flyleaf at the very back protects all the papers. A ruler and gray pen in the notepad pocket.  I use the grey pen to line my pages manually to create a checklist.

Two Coletos are hooked onto the pen loop.

The back pocket with a notepad.

I don't know if you can see but the
pages have 3 perforated sections.

DIARY UPDATE
I wrote about an experiment I was going to do here.  It worked out well.  I found out two things:  (1)  I love the cotton cream WO2P, and (2) I love the Dodopad.  So it's a tie!  They would both work out well for my diary choice in 2013.  I will probably alternate between the two -- probably!  But I went ahead and ordered the Cotton Cream (because that's what my daughter uses) and will get the Dodopad at a later time.

Cotton Cream WO2P
I was able to fit in non-day-specific to-dos, daily to-dos, appointments.  I didn't think I'd have room for the weekly menu, but I did! This was an exceptionally busy week I think, so there's definitely plenty of room for my 'normal' days.

Dodopad
Definitely a lot of room as well.

Still with me?  (:  You're in luck because I'm done.  Such a long post, so if you're still here, thanks!

William, on the left.  Harry, on the right.
But here's one last shot of the Malden with his baby brother (and yes, I obviously think they're masculine, LOL).
