This is the 3rd in a series of posts where I talk about things "I Love . . ."

And since my blog is called "The Storage Studio", I thought it would be appropriate to show you how I organize and store my makeup.
Now, I find makeup one of the more challenging items to organize and store. I feel it may be because of the myriad of sizes, shapes, and uses of them that made me really have to think hard about how to do it.
Also, I didn't want just any old storage. Of course, I wanted the storage to be pretty and functional, and somehow coordinate.
To start, I had this vanity custom-build to my specifications when we moved to this house. It fits exactly inside this little alcove in the master's bedroom, and I had adjustable shelves built on top for extra storage.
The pink, black and white boxes, which I wrote about here, contain back-ups and extras like brushes, sponges, palettes, etc.
I also have a clock up top so I know I'm not running late.
This is how it looks like with all the drawers open. (A little scary!)
I have a bright light under the lower-most shelf (behind the mirror) so I can see what I'm doing.
The hairdryer on the right hangs on a hook under the shelf.
And from another angle.
The plastic drawers were added after the fact after I started to run out of room. If I had known, I would have had additional ones built in. And I could still do that. But I haven't gotten around to it yet.
How It's Organized
I organize by type: face (primer, foundation, powder), cheek (blush, highlighter), eyes (primer, liner, shadow, mascara) and lips (liner, lipstick, gloss).
The entire right-hand side is all face stuff.
Face stuff up above |
Cheek stuff down below. Two smaller clear plastic bins on the right organize the smaller items even more. |
And the left hand side is all eye and lip stuff.
Eye and lip products above the vanity. Glosses and lip pencils in see-through jars. |
Only eye products below |
The reason for the right-hand/left-hand system is so that I know where to reach for something when I need it and not have to search too much for something.
Front and center is where I store brushes in 2 plastic glasses, again, face/cheek brushes on the right, and eye brushes on the left.
And those two little drawers underneath contain my most used products like eye primers, highlighters, most-used blush, etc., etc.
I find this system works for me and I can get ready without having to look for something -- I always know exactly where something is.
If I had to do it over, I would have had more drawers made at the get-go. Also, it's not always easy finding just the right glass/jar/bin to help control the clutter on top. I would have loved coordinating/matching containers in different sizes, but oh well.
All in all, it works for me. I've just recently de-cluttered and re-organized so you're seeing the cameo of the re-worked storage system. It wasn't much different, but it's definitely a little bit neater now.
Hope that helps you somehow when looking for storage items for makeup, or whatever else you need for your own organizing needs.
Thanks for visiting!

Wow nice collection of make up. Are they sigma or Mac brushes? I have the sigma kabuki brushes and they do wonders lol
ReplyDeleteCheers,

Hi ML! Those are Mac and Pout brushes. I got the full set of Pout brushes right before the company went out of business. (: I haven't tried any Sigma brushes, but I have read/seen that they're very good.
